One of my hobbies besides decorating is organizing.  Sometimes I call it organized decorating (see another post about this here)!  I love getting creative w/all the clutter that fills our homes to each have a place so that it functions well.  Today I’m showing you my utility closet hack: HANGING SHOE POCKETS.  I actually got the idea from my grandmother who likes to be able to see clearly what she has in each closet & to easily “go shopping” for what she needs.  My favorite way she uses these shoe holders is to store & display gift-wrap supplies!

*Note: these hanging organizers are meant for over-the-door use & come w/hooks. I just used the holes that were already at the top & hung them on nails to the wall!
These come in a variety of colors, but clear pockets allows you to see what you need!

Utility items are so random & ugly aren’t they?  And they can cause overwhelming clutter when shoved in a closet or drawer b/c most things don’t necessarily go together.  These hanging shoe pockets are a great visual way to see what you have & quickly grab what you need, like going “shopping” as my Nanny does!  Click on the picture link below for where I found mine:

For heavier items I tucked a tall shelf in the corner, but still wanted it open & used clear containers to easily see what’s inside.  I also hung my flag b/c there was just enough vertical wall space to utilize!
Hanging mops & brooms keeps them off the floor & creates more space for things underneath. Also isn’t it the WORST when you open a closet & broomsticks come topping out?!
I am grateful this closet came w/a shelf, otherwise I would have installed one for cleaning supplies. To me, I’d rather keep them up high then have to bend down & shuffle around under a sink. The items that get used the most are displayed up front.
Our utility closet is right next to the pantry – I’ll do a post on that another day!

It makes me happy knowing there’s organization behind these doors.  Anyone else like that feeling once you’ve revamped a closet?  It just brings a sense of peace to the chaos that life can bring.  And it doesn’t take a whole lot of prep if you have the right organizers, a plan & a little bit of time.

Happy organizing!

❤ Rebecca
