Now that the cat is out of the bag about our 1st baby coming in March, I can finally share my latest nursery finds!  My goal w/the nursery design is to make the budget go far by purchasing things that will also work in an older kid’s room.  I’m also going to thrift as much as possible, then I’ll try the other stores in my toolbox to find what’s left.  The very first piece I scored was this bookcase at a consignment shop:

It’s solid wood & the shelves are adjustable.  I was able to talk the owner down to $50 b/c it had a few nicks & scratches.  When I got home I fixed most of the scratches w/a white paint marker.  This is what thrifting is all about – you have to be OK w/the fact that it is not new & may have imperfections.  But most of the time simple fixes can cover those flaws!  I don’t intend to use the cord holes for anything so when I fill the bookcase you won’t see them anymore.  Same goes w/the nicked wood on the bottom shelf.  It will look new in the end & THAT is what makes budget shopping so rewarding!

I love all the details like the wainscoting, rounded legs, drawer trim & the ornate cut-out.  These are all elements that would make it an expensive piece if purchased new!  My plan is to replace the knobs w/more decorative ones like these from Amazon:

Can’t wait to share more furniture finds & then the final design reveal of the nursery once its complete.  I would love to hear your tips too on keeping baby purchases low!
